Connectors or Linking Words
Connectors
Rule-1: কোনোকিছুর কারণ উল্লেখ করতে, সংখ্যাবাচক বা নির্দিষ্ট ব্যাপক অর্থে, ১ম কারণ বা ঘটনা বর্ণনা করতে passage বা sentence এর শুরুতে First বা firestly, in the first place, first of all হয়। দ্বিতীয় কারণ উল্লেখ করতে Secondly বসে এবং শেষ বর্ণনা উল্লেখ করতে Thirdly, finally, in the end লিখা যায়।
যেমনঃ
1 Trees give us many things. Firstly, they provide oxygen. Secondly, wood and shelter. And finally/in the end, they give us food and medicine.
Rule-2: সংযোজন বা অন্তর্ভুক্তিকরণ, অতিরিক্ত তথ্য প্রদান করতে, একটির সাথে আরেকটির মিল, একটি বা একজন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে না বুঝিয়ে সাথে অন্যটিকে বা অন্যজনকে বুঝালে, অধিকন্তু, এবং, ও অর্থে, আরো অর্থে, মত বা মিল অর্থে এবং আবার অর্থে
And, also, too, as well as, both. .... and, or, either……..or, neither....... nor, similarly, not only......but also, Further / moreover/besides/ however/furthermore/in addition [ Compound Sentence] যেমন:
And
(a) He came to my house and attended my birthday party.
(b) Arif and Hanif are brothers.
As well as -এবং
(a) : Paradise Lost as well as Illiad is a great epic.
(b) He as well as his brothers has done it.
3.Both... and -- উভয়ই
(a). Both Kamal and Jamal speak English well.
(b). Both he and his friend will go.
Also/too -- আরও
a) He called me and you also/too [আরও অর্থে],
Either......or -হয় এটা না হয় সেটা
b) Either he or his friend has gone there. [হয় এটি, কিংবা ওটি ]
Neither……. nor - এটাও না ---- সেটাও না/ এই জনও না -- সেই জনও না
c) He will neither do this nor his brother
d) Neither he nor his friend were guilty.
Rule-3: উদাহরণ বা দৃষ্টান্ত দিতে, কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু সম্পর্কে অতিরিক্ত কিছু বলতে, উল্লেখিত শব্দ বা phrase গুলো বসে । যেমন: for example, for instance, such as, namely, in other word ইত্যাদি। যেমন
on the other hand/for instance, such as, namely, in other words
1.Many birds are called birds of prey. Such as / namely / for instance/for example - The eagle, the vulture, and Crow etc.
2. Money can not bring happiness. For example/ such as / namely / for instance Mr. Anis is rich but unhappy.
####//: Indeed/infact/actually/certainly/Undoubtedly - প্রকৃতপক্ষে/আসলে/মূলত/নিশ্চয়ই/নিসন্দেহে
Rule 4. কোনো (সত্য) ঘটনা বা কোনোকিছুর বর্ণনা দিতে গিয়ে জোর বা গুরুত্ব দিতে সাধারণত Indeed/ in fact /Actually,Nodoubt/Actually/apparently/certainly-নিশ্চয়ই / exactly অবশ্যই / especially / of course ete বসে।
Note: এই linking words গুলো Simple Sentence বসে।
যেমনঃ
(i) Corruption has pervaded everywhere. Indeed / in fact/actually, it is the number one problem in our country. [বাস্তব সত্য বা ঘটনার প্রতি জোর দেওয়া বা প্রকৃত ঘটনা বর্ণনা দিতে এ শব্দগুলো বসে]
(ii) He actually lives next door. [adverb এর কাজ]
(iii) Kamal got the first prize. Actually/ exactly/ Of Course, he deserves it.
Rule-5: বৈসাদৃশ্য বা বিপরিত ভাব প্রকাশ করতে simple sentence এ In spite of / despite বসে। compound এর মাঝখানে but/nevertheless / however, all the same, yet. still ইত্যাদি বসে । Complex এর মাঝে বা শুরুতে 'yet,' while / whereas, though, although, even though ইত্যাদি বসে। Simple আবার অনেক সময়- On the contrary/ On the other hand / Whereas বসে।
Ex:
On the contrary/on the other hand:
প্রক্ষান্তরে/ অপরদিকে
I always help him. On the contrary/ on the other hand, he misbehaves with me.[Simple বাক্যে পক্ষান্তরে বা অপরপক্ষে অর্থে]
i) Karim is not foolish. On the contrary/ on the other hand, he is very clever.
But/yet/still: [কিন্তু, তবুও বা তা সত্ত্বেও অর্থে ]
(i) He is poor but /yet / still he is honest.
(ii) The boy studied hard but /still /yet, he failed.
While / wherease:
(i).He is rich while / whereas his brother is poor. [Complex sentence ]
But/neverthless, however - যাইহোক / all the same.
(i) You are late, however, you can join the class.
(ii). I am ill nevertheless I shall join the part.
(iii). It is all the same, whether you come or not. [Complex sentence ]
Though/Although - যদিও
(i). Though he was rich, he could not help the poor.
Rule-6 : কারণ বর্ণনা করতে বা প্রকাশ করতে বা কোনো ঘটনা ঘটছে বা ঘটেনি, করছে বা করেনি সেই কারণ বর্ণনা বা ফলাফল প্রকাশ করতে সাধারণত -
Since, as, for, because, why, so, due to, for this reason, that is why ইত্যাদি বসে।
Since/as/because/why/that's why/that is why
i) Since I am ill, I can not play.
ii) We should not cut trees as /since/ because it is important for our environment/existence.
iii) I do not know why he is absent.
iv) Mina could not attend the meeting because she was ill. That is why, The boss asked her why she didn't come.
Rule-7: পূর্বে যা বলা হয়েছে বা করা হয়েছে, যার ফলে যা ঘটবে বা দাঁড়িয়েছে বা কোন ফলাফল প্রকাশ করতে -So, therefore, hence - সুতরাং, অতএব, as a consequence/as a result/ consequently- ফলে, তাই eventually, (অবশেষে/ তাই) ইত্যাদি বসে। যেমন:
i) Nafeez was absent from the class. As a result / consequently/ so, he could not bring the homework.
ii) He walked five miles. So/therefore, he is feeling tired.
iii) We should read the newspaper daily. But many of us are unwilling to do it. As a result/as a consequence/ consequently/ so, they lag behind in the progressive world.
Rule-8: কোনো কাজের উদ্দেশ্য বা ফলাফল বুঝাতে Lest- পাছে বা নইলে, so as / to// in order that- যাতে, Too—---to- এতই যে –---- না, Simple বাক্যে বসে, So that- যাতে, So—-----that- এতই যে –--- না, So much, as many as - Complex বাক্যে বসে।
Note: connectors গুলো ২ টি অংশকে সংযুক্ত করে। যেমন:
i) He reads attentively lest he should fail. পাছে বা নইলে অর্থে]
ii) I keep the door open to let fresh air enter into the room. [ [উদ্দেশ্য বুঝাতে]
iii) The man is working hard so that he can overcome his problem. [যাতে অর্থে]
iv) The old man is so weak that he can not walk. [ফলাফল বুঝতে]
v) He took as much milk as he could.[ এত বেশি পরিমাণে যে]
Rule-9: শর্ত প্রকাশ করলে বা বুঝালে Conditional sentence এ নিচের Connectors গুলো বসে। যেমন: If-যদি, till / until- যতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত/যতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত না, when/while- যখন বা যেখানে, অন্যথায়, Unless- যদি না . Provided / Providing that- যদি, in case, as long as - যতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত ইত্যাদি বসে।
যেমন:
i) If you want, I shall help you. [শর্ত অর্থে]
ii) Eat or/otherwise go away.
iii) You will fail unless you are sincere.
iv) Wait here till/until I come back
v) The plane will take off provided that the weather is fine.
vi) Had you wanted, I would have helped you. [শর্ত প্রকাশ ]
vii) When my friend comes, you will please tell him to wait for me.
Rule-10: সময় বা স্থান বুঝাতে নিচের শব্দগুলো বসে at that time, there, where, as/ since-যখন /when-যখন, while অনির্দিষ্ট সময়ে, before/after, as soon as - যত শীঘ্রই sometimes, at present- recently / lately সম্প্রতি, and then - মাঝে মাঝে, no sooner had........ than/ scarcely had......when/Hardly had—-------when/Barely had—-----when - যেতে না যেতে, খেতে না খেতে, পৌছাতে না পৌঁছাতে অর্থাৎ একটা কাজ করতে না করতে।
যেমনঃ
i) He took admission in 1995. At that time he was 18 years old. [সময় অর্থে]
ii) Dhaka is the city where he was born.
iii) I went to Chittagong. There lives his father.
iv) I don't know when the train will arrive. [সময় অর্থে]
v) I was reading while the mobile rang.
vi) The bell rang after the teacher had entered the classroom.
vii) Sometimes my uncle visits our house.
viii) It is two years since I met her last.
xi) Recently he has visited a few European countries.
x) No Sooner had we reached the station than the train left.
Rule- 11: উপসংহার বা সারমর্ম বা সারসংক্ষেপ প্রকাশ করতে নিচের connectors গুলো বসে ।
In brief- , in short, to sum up/ অবশেষে/উপসংহারে , to summarise, on the whole / above all, overall ইত্যাদি। যেমনঃ
1.He is studious, sincere and obedient. In short /above all, he is brilliant.
2.To sum up, education is the backbone of a nation
Rule-12: একই সময়ে সংঘটিত দুটি ঘটনা প্রকাশ করতে at the same time - একই সময়, at that time-ঐ সময়, meanwhile-ইতিমধ্যে, as-যখন ইত্যাদি। যেমন:
1.When/ As I lived there I would meet him.
2.At the same time, he was eating and talking to his friend
Rule-13: কোনো কাজের ধরন বা কাজটি কীভাবে করা হয়, তা বুঝাতে as if / as though, How, like, as so, as it were, such... as , According to- (অনুসারে বসে) ইত্যাদি বসে। যেমনঃ
1.According to my opinion, he is a good guy.
2.He speaks as if knew everything.
3.This is the way how he talks.
Rule-14: জোড়ায় জোড়ায় ব্যবহৃত আরও কিছু অর্থাৎ, নিচের শব্দগুলোর সাথে একটির সাথে অন্যটির অর্থ প্রকাশের জন্যে করার জন্যে বসে যেমনঃ
Either he is good or bad.
Neither Karim nor Rahim were guilty .
It is all the same whether you attend the meeting or not.
No sooner had.... than.
Too... to.
Rule-15: দুটি বাক্যকে যুক্ত করতে Complex sentence এর মাঝে Relative Pronoun হিসেবে Who/which/that বসে।
I know the man who is my uncle
The fact is that trees are very important for us.
It is health which is wealth.
